Alpine environments are harsh, and put special stresses on the flora which have adapted in numerous ways. Alpine plant communities are unique and highly fragile and one of the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The class will identify the flowers of the Ball Mountain and Mosquito Pass areas by their scientific and common names, allowing the participants to get to know these very unique plants, which include some native orchids.

Participants must be able to walk short distances over uneven ground, carry water, and rain gear. Meet at Colorado Mountain College, Don Hix Memorial Gazebo. Field guides will be provided. Please note that neither wildflowers nor weather is predictable, and the location make change to take advantage of blooming locations.
