Outdoor Pursuits planned and led a climbing trip to Moab over Thanksgiving break.

“Outdoor Pursuits is a student led organization dedicated to providing tools and opportunities for fellow students to experience the outdoors,” says club advisor and Outdoor Studies Program Manager Trey Shelton, “We are committed to maintaining quality rental gear for student use and we provide opportunities for students to experience the outdoors through student led activities.”

You don’t have to be in the Outdoor Studies program to enjoy our mountain playground. Outdoor Pursuits is open to all students and the gear room is located in the Climax Molybdenum Center. The rental gear list is constantly changing and is often updated based on ORL/ OE program equipment needs. Backpacks, stoves, sleeping bags, mountain bikes, fat bikes, split-boards, backcountry ski set-ups, stand up paddleboards, maps, and ice tools are just a few examples of the gear available for OP students to use. Rentals are based on gear room hours, which change occasionally and are always posted on the door.

“It was wonderful be able to apply some of the things we learned in our classes in a peer environment,” said Outdoor & Environmental student Sarah Duprey, “and it was fun to have it be student directed. It was a joint effort as a group and we all worked together to make this trip happen.”

Outdoor Pursuits also brings in speakers to share their own outdoor adventures including Everest mountaineers and outdoor photographers.
