Volunteers Needed for Colorado High School Cycling League Leadville Race, September 10

The Colorado High School Mountain Bike Race will make its return to Leadville on September 10, 2017 for the Cloud City Challenge. Riders from high schools around Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico will hit the campus trails for the 2nd event in the 2017 summer race series. Colorado Mountain College Leadville is excited to host the Cloud City Challenge again, welcoming the 400+ racers and their families to Leadville for a day of camaraderie and competition.

2017 Volunteer Flyer for Colorado High School Cycling League - Volunteers Needed for Colorado High School Cycling RaceThe race will start and finish at CMC, with breathtaking views of Colorado’s highest peaks Mount Elbert and Mount Massive. This high elevation course includes portions of the CMC Timberline trail system as well as Lake County trails maintained by the Cloud City Wheelers cycling group in Leadville.

Colorado Mountain College – Sodexo will provide a variety of breakfast and lunch items on Sunday from 7:30AM – 3PM.

Volunteers are in need for both the setup on Saturday, September 9th and race day on Sunday, September 10th. Volunteering information can be found at coloradomtb.org/volunteer.

Course Description

The 2017 course starts with a gradual climb through a pine forest and meanders through the Nordic ski trails, connecting with an old mining road. Riders will then turn onto Upper Deck, a twisty single track, which intersects Wheelers Way. The course descends clockwise on Wheelers Way eventually sending riders up through the aspen forest on Golddiger and Cold Feet. The course will once again intersect with Wheeler’s Way where it rolls down and up to Old Chub. Riders will quickly intersect with a double track road to Lower Boulders a fast mix of doubletrack and singletrack. The course turns left back onto the Nordic trails with a double track climb back to the finish. Total course distance is approximately TBD miles, with approximately TBD feet of climbing per lap. Consultation and course design were provided by Leadville Coach Bruce Kelly and to Sterling Mudge of the Cloud City Wheelers.
