The 14th Annual Cloud City Rail Jam returns to Leadville’s Dutch Henri Hill on Saturday, March 24, 2018 with a new twist. This year’s rail jam will include a pond skim event (weather dependent) as well as the classic all-ages rail jam competition. Entry is $15, cash only, and those who bring a non-perishable food donation will receive $5 off their entry fee.

This all ages rail jam will have separate divisions for men and women (13+) and a grom division (12 years and under). The pond skimming event will be for participants 14 years+.  Competitors under 18 years of age will need a parent or guardian signature to participate and helmets are required for all. Registration and practice will begin at 10 AM. The first 30 to register will receive a complimentary jersey made by Dr. Ryde Industries.

Prizes will be awarded to the top competitors in each division. Concession food and beverages will be available for purchase, and music will be provided by DJ Basstek.

The annual rail jam event at Colorado Mountain College Leadville is hosted by the Ski Area Operations program and their Events Management class. From start to finish, the Cloud City Rail Jam is a final project for the semester long course, and students receive individual grades for their participation. Students are responsible for all aspects of the event, including terrain park design, building features, planning, promotion, prizes and sponsorships.

“I’m most excited for the new pond skimming feature,” says Ski Area Operations student Robert Roberson, “It’s never been done before at a CMC Leadville rail jam and I cannot wait to see people attempt the pond skim.”

The list of sponsors and prizes is expected to grow leading up to the event. Event sponsors thus far include Dr. Ryde Industries, Breeze, Dragon, Liberty Skis, Black Strap, Ski Cooper, 10th Mountain Hut Association, Beyond Generic and Fairly Casual. Prizes include a snowboard made by ski business students at CMC Steamboat, a free tune and demo rental voucher from Breeze, a hut trip for four from 10th Mountain Hut Association, a season pass to Ski Cooper, gear from Black Strap, goggles, t-shirts, socks, as well as various swag items from Dragon, Liberty and Fairly Casual.
