Colorado Mountain College Leadville’s outdoor program is hosting a backcountry skills clinic on December 6, 2019 from 1-4pm. The Gear Room Expo: A Symposium of Backcountry Skills will include demonstrations and skill-building workshops based around backcountry gear and cooking.
Specific activities include stove repair, backcountry brownies & orange cakes, kayak fitting, a guided snowshoe hike, and gear repair/ tuning clinics. This event is designed for all CMC students and community members interested in backcountry skills.
The Equipment Room Practicum class (OUT-187) is hosting the event in the Gear Room of the Climax Molybdenum building at Colorado Mountain College Leadville. The course was created to improve the capabilities of the CMC gear room, and students will use this opportunity to gather critical feedback about community interests and needs.
“We hope to engage the students and community by showing them the value of the gear room,” says Peter Hall, an Outdoor Recreation Leadership student from Colorado Springs, “This will help us improve our understanding of gear room management and how it can be an asset for everyone.”
There will be free backcountry snacks and freshly baked treats. Event attendees are encouraged to bring their backcountry stoves for a stove repair clinic and a demonstration on how to make backcountry treats. Those interested in the guided snowshoe hike should dress for the occasion. Bring in ripped, torn, broken or otherwise damaged gear and learn how to repair them with CMC’s gear room class.
