From the beginning, Colorado Mountain College has flourished because local citizens have valued the way education can enliven their communities. In the early 1960s, visionaries sought approval for a college district. Taxpayers caught the vision and overwhelmingly voted to fund it.

In 1967, the two original campuses in Leadville and Spring Valley were built simultaneously with modular buildings transported from Denver.

Today, there are 11 locations serving 20,000 students each year. Colorado Mountain College offers programs from ESL and GED to bachelor’s degrees. We are partnering with local school districts through the Mountain Futures Fund, securing private and public funding to ensure that every local high school student can have the opportunity for a college education.

Like our founders, we are energized by the possibilities ahead. Because of local support, Colorado Mountain College will continue to elevate the vitality of our beautiful Rocky Mountain communities.
